On this week's podcast, Bob gives a general 'lay of the land' on the Views 2 module for Drupal. Views 1 is powerful and totally awesome, but Views 2 will rock your world (after you stare at the new interface blankly for a half hour). This podcast gives you a quick tour of the new interface in order to get you started.
Display custom fields?
Excellent--thank you!
How does one display a custom created field (like date)? I tried to add one via "Fields => Node", but to no avail.
Thanks again.
Global
Hey Justin...
If you're using DateAPI, look under "Global" instead of "node". You'll find the general date fields there.
Thanks - "Content"
Thanks Bob. It was actually under "Content"; thanks again!
awesome!
Great intro to view2. You have inspired me. I have a couple of new sites to work on and I will take the plunge now. I need to do more with D6 anyway. :)
I hope to learn more about the ajax options in views2. I need to play with that one.
Thanks much!

Thanx for excellent video podcast! :-)
Just wanna thank you for excellent video podcasts.

You saved my bacon!
I was so lost trying to figure this out on my own. Now that I understand the interface I'm able to figure out the rest of it. I'm doing a redesign of our site to take advantage of Drupal 6.
Including views in a page
Great tutorial! I've created a couple of views for myself and they work great.
This may be a dumb question, but I'm having some trouble actually calling these views into pages. For instance, I have a view I want to include in each user's profile, that shows the articles written by that particlar user. How would I "hook up" a user page to the view I've made?
This is marvellous, Bob!
Godspeed your work! These video podcast are really useful for god's work!
how can i change workflow
how can i change workflow states by clicking buttons. i can do it with inbuilt radio buttons but i want ordinary button click on contents to change its states
Access to different content
Hi,
Thanks for your screencasts. I have learned a lot from them.
Can you make a screencast about permission?
I want different groups of people to get access to different content.
There is far less documentation on that
Thanks
Thank you!
Finally someone who will show how to use Views 2 from start to finish.
Thank you for your posts.
Keep up the Good Work!
Hey,
Am in the process of changing my static website to a drupal one and have found your videos extremely helpful. Just watched this one about views and wanted to give you a big thumbs up - so thanks for taking the time to create these!
Regards
Matt
Thanks
Just to thank you for thee really useull and well done podcasts!
views 2 and passing parameters
great module. there is a way to pass a parameter to a view. but I can not figure it out. I have not spent much time playing wiht it, but perhaps you could do a second installment talking about this.
Another poscast idea. How about panels 2? you can demonstrate taking a panel block in views2 and displaying it in a panel. But also, demonstrate how you can reference the view with a paramter. perhaps how you can have multiple blocks reference each other. And please dont forget to talk about what "CONTEXT" means.
Configurations issues?
Bob, thanks for a very informative, easy-to-understand, high quality video podcast.
Did you encounter any configuration issues after first installing views 2?
Based on a tutorial over at drupaltherapy.com for Date and Calendar on Views 2 i attempted to update the style from 'unformatted' to calendar and got an error:
An error occurred at http://sandbox.dev/admin/build/views/ajax/display/date_browser/default/s...
I have:
Drupal 6.9
Views 6.x-2.3
Calendar 6.x-2.0-rc6
any clues?
Thanks again. Your podcasts are enriching and expanding my experience.
Views CCK - Directory
Hi Bob
Thanks for spending your time doing this.
Just a suggestion.
Could you please show an example on how to create a directory listing like yahoo if it's easy.
Also please put in some Google adsense on your site, so we can contribute to your effort.
cheers
Ed
Views attachment display and Home page
I have been searching all over the place and I have yet to find any good tutors for using Views 2 Attachment Display for customizing your home page. I have seen a few articles from people saying using the attachment display was great for doing this, but no one tells you how, other than to use attachment display.
I would love to see a video on doing this. This would be the layout.
A welcome node (page type) at the top in FULL view. Below the welcome node, are displayed the last 4 nodes in teaser view. Everyone tells me I need to use the attachment display to make this happen. But darn, after days of trying to figure it out, I'm thinking it is more complex than my expertise. I searched google and very little info is to be found except for people saying that using the attachment display was great, but no actual explanation on how.
Please, please do a video on how to do this. Since I have been posting on drupal forum a lot of others seem to be interested in the same thing but are just as confused on how to do it.
Great work!
First of all, thank you so much! I'm just learning Drupal and out of all the video tutorials yours are the best so far. Keep up the great work.
I haven't gotten through all of these yet so I apologize in advance if this issue has already been addressed. I would love to see a tutorial showing how to customize themes. Changing out the header graphics; adding additional menus beyond the primary and secondary; utilizing graphics buttons for menu links; and even adding our own blocks.
Thanks again.
Views and Internationalisation
Thank you so very much for your very useful screencasts!
How can I handle multi-lingual content, nodes that are translated, in Views? I want the user to only see lists of content in the language that has been chosen?
Regards
Henrik
Excellent Question
Great Question Henrik,
And the answer is....I don't know :)
I can only assume that the user will see the translated version of the Views content when the view is built so you shouldn't need to do anything. I can't confirm that, but from what I know about the back end, that should "just work". Good luck!
Your videos are the best out there
After tearing my hair out trying to learn things 17 different ways, I found you.
Thank you, thank you, a million times thank you.
